oboloo checks each supplier's name against a sanctions list held in oboloo and flags any match, so you can review the supplier before you work with them. This guide is for anyone who adds or manages suppliers, and for compliance teams reviewing the supplier base.

Before you start

You need permission to add or edit suppliers to see the check in the supplier form. The sanctions banner and the Sanctioned Supplier column are visible to anyone who can view suppliers.
📌 Important: The check compares names only and is for information. It doesn't stop you saving or using a supplier, and a clear result doesn't prove a supplier isn't sanctioned. Always follow your organisation's own screening process.

Check a supplier when you add or edit it

Open the supplier form

  • To add a supplier, go to Supplier Management > Suppliers and click Add New Supplier.

  • To edit one, open the supplier record and click Edit on the summary card. The Edit Supplier Information dialog opens.

Enter the supplier's name

Type the full name in Supplier Name. When you stop typing, oboloo shows Checking sanctions list... and then the result under the field:

  • Supplier appears on a sanctioned list. (red): the name matches an entry on the list.

  • Not on the sanctions list. (green): no matching entry was found.

Review the result and save

If the supplier is flagged, check the match with your compliance team before you go ahead. You can still save the supplier either way.

Screen your existing suppliers

Open the Suppliers or Supplier Compliance table

Go to Supplier Management > Suppliers, or Supplier Management > Supplier Compliance.

Add the Sanctioned Supplier column

Click Edit Columns and select Sanctioned Supplier. The column is hidden by default.

Read the results

  • A red circle with a tick means the name matches. Hover over it to see which list the match came from.

  • A green circle with a cross means the name doesn't appear on the list.

How the check works

  • What it compares: the supplier name only. Contacts, addresses, directors and company numbers aren't checked.

  • How names are matched: capital letters, punctuation and extra spaces are ignored, but otherwise the whole name must match exactly. Spelling variants, trading names, partial names and differences such as Ltd and Limited won't match.

  • Where the list comes from: a combined list of names designated by the United Kingdom, the United Nations and the United States, plus the World Bank. oboloo holds a copy of the list, which isn't updated live from the official sources.

  • When it runs: each time a supplier record or the supplier tables load, so a change of supplier name is picked up straight away.

What happens next

  • On the supplier record: a matching supplier shows a red banner at the top: WARNING: This supplier appears on a sanctions list provided by the [source]. Please review internally.

  • In the tables: the Sanctioned Supplier column shows a red tick for the supplier.

  • Nothing is blocked or sent: the supplier can still be saved, approved and linked to contracts, savings and sourcing activities. No notification is sent, so agree internally who reviews flagged suppliers.

Troubleshooting

A supplier I expected to be flagged isn't

The name must match the list entry exactly, apart from capitals, punctuation and spacing. Try the supplier's full registered name, and always confirm with an official sanctions search.

A supplier is flagged but it's a different organisation

The check matches names only, so an unrelated organisation with the same name will be flagged. Review it internally and record your decision, for example in the supplier's Latest Activity. The flag can't be dismissed while the name matches.

I can't see the Sanctioned Supplier column

The column is off by default. Click Edit Columns above the table and select Sanctioned Supplier.

No check appeared when I added a supplier

The live check only appears in the Add Supplier form and in Edit Supplier Information. Suppliers created from another form or by import aren't checked as you add them, but the banner and the column still flag them. Open the record or add the column to check them.
