The dashboard at the top of the Savings Initiatives page (Savings Management > Savings Initiatives) summarises your savings in your base currency, using four metric tiles and three charts. This article explains exactly what each figure includes, for anyone who needs to report on or check savings totals.

What's on the page

Area

What it shows

Metric tiles

Total Realised Savings, Realised Savings %, Remaining Projected Savings and Remaining Projected Savings %.

Dashboard filters

Filters that control the tiles and charts. They don't filter the savings table further down the page.

Projected Vs Realised Savings by Month

Projected and realised savings for each month, grouped by milestone end date.

Recent Saving Notifications

Your 10 most recent savings notifications. All Notifications opens the full list in your profile.

Projected Vs Realised Savings by Category

Projected and realised savings for each category, sorted by projected savings.

Projected Vs Realised Savings by Department

Projected and realised savings for each department, sorted by projected savings.

How the metric tiles are calculated

All four tiles add up figures from savings milestones, not from the totals shown on each savings record.

Tile

How it's calculated

Total Realised Savings

The total realised savings (realised cost reduction + realised cost avoidance) of every Completed milestone, converted to your base currency.

Realised Savings %

The realised savings of Completed milestones ÷ the baseline spend of those same milestones × 100. Shown as a whole number.

Remaining Projected Savings

The total projected savings (projected cost reduction + projected cost avoidance) of every milestone that is not Completed, converted to your base currency.

Remaining Projected Savings %

The projected savings of milestones that are not Completed ÷ the baseline spend of those same milestones × 100. Shown as a whole number.

💡 Example: A savings initiative has two milestones, each with a baseline spend of £10,000. Milestone 1 is Completed with realised savings of £1,500. Milestone 2 is In Progress with projected savings of £2,000. Total Realised Savings is £1,500, Realised Savings % is 15%, Remaining Projected Savings is £2,000 and Remaining Projected Savings % is 20%.

Which savings are included

A milestone counts towards the tiles and charts only if its savings initiative is:

  • Not archived and not a draft.

  • Not Cancelled.

  • Approved, or never needed approval. Savings initiatives that are awaiting approval or have been rejected are left out.

A milestone that has been marked as complete but is still waiting for approval stays In Progress until it's approved. Until then it counts towards Remaining Projected Savings, not Total Realised Savings.

Record access restrictions don't change the totals. The tiles and charts include every savings initiative that meets the rules above, even ones you can't open.

How currency conversion works

Total Realised Savings, Remaining Projected Savings and the month and category charts show amounts in your base currency. When a savings initiative uses another currency, each milestone's amount is divided by that milestone's own exchange rate. The rate is saved on each milestone, so changing the currency's exchange rate later doesn't change existing milestones.

💡 Example: Your base currency is GBP. A milestone in a USD savings initiative has realised savings of $1,000 and an exchange rate of 1.25, so it adds £800 (1,000 ÷ 1.25) to Total Realised Savings.

The two percentage tiles and the department chart add up the amounts as entered, without converting them. If your savings use several currencies, treat these figures as a guide.

Filter the dashboard

Use the filter bar below the tiles to narrow the tiles and charts. Click Clear Filter to reset them.

  • Savings Period From and Savings Period To: include milestones whose end date falls in this range.

  • Categories and Sub-Categories

  • Locations and Departments

  • Saving Type

  • Created By: the user who created the savings initiative.

  • Savings Initiative Title: a single savings initiative. This filter changes the tiles and the month chart only.

  • Supplier

To open a chart full screen, click the expand icon in its top-right corner. The same filters appear above the full-screen chart (the savings initiative filter is labelled Savings Project there), and any changes you make also apply to the rest of the dashboard.

How the charts are calculated

Chart

Period shown when no dates are set

What's added up

Projected Vs Realised Savings by Month

6 months before today to 6 months after today

The projected and realised savings of all milestones ending in each month, including Completed milestones. Converted to your base currency.

Projected Vs Realised Savings by Category

Today to 12 months from today

The projected and realised savings of milestones ending in the period, for each category. Converted to your base currency. With no filters set, only your top 10 categories are shown.

Projected Vs Realised Savings by Department

Today to 12 months from today

The projected and realised savings of milestones ending in the period, for each department, with each initiative counted once per department. Not converted. With no filters set, only your top 10 departments are shown.

If you set only Savings Period From, the charts cover 12 months from that date. If you set only Savings Period To, they cover the 12 months before it.

💡 Tip: The projected bars in the charts include milestones that are already complete, so they show the full projected savings for each period. The Remaining Projected Savings tile includes only milestones that aren't complete yet.

Common questions

Why doesn't a tile match the totals on a savings record?

The tiles add up milestones across every counted savings initiative, converted to your base currency. A savings record shows its totals in its own currency. Archived, draft, Cancelled, unapproved and rejected savings are also left out of the tiles.

I completed a milestone but Total Realised Savings hasn't changed

If you chose an approver when marking the milestone as complete, it stays In Progress until it's approved, so it still counts as projected. Also check that the savings initiative is approved and isn't a draft, and that its milestone end date is inside any Savings Period filter you've set.

Why is my new savings initiative missing from the dashboard?

Drafts and savings awaiting approval aren't counted. Publish the draft or get the savings initiative approved, then reload the page.

Do the dashboard filters change the savings table?

No. The dashboard filters only change the tiles and charts. The savings table has its own filters.
